“Amy Goodman is a goddess,” enthuses KGNU’s Joanne Cole, “and she is a real journalist in a day when there are very few, and she is a tireless journalist on top of that, and we are so thrilled to have her here.” And you should be, too: The host of Democracy Now! is stopping by the Central Presbyterian Church, 1660 Sherman Street, tonight at 7:30 p.m. to help raise funds for KGNU Community Radio and KBDI Channel 12, and to promote the paperback version of her book, STATIC: Government Liars, Media Cheerleaders, and the People Who Fight Back. STATIC is Goodman’s second collaboration with her brother, Mother Jones reporter David Goodman, and it focuses on how the Bush administration has manipulated and fabricated news, how corporate media outlets have failed to question the deceit, and how some people are working to expose the lack of investigation into the Bush administration’s claims.
Tickets to Goodman’s appearance are $15; a very limited number of tickets including a private reception, reserved seating and a copy of STATIC are also available. If you can’t purchase your tickets in advance, “there will be lots of tickets at the door,” assures Cole, as well as copies of STATIC for sale. “And she will sign every last one of them,” Cole says. Visit www.kgnu.org or call 303-449-4885 or 1-800-690-KBDI.
