When Anna Winter and Laura Conway put out a call for submissions for their in-home art show, Staycation, they weren’t expecting a global response, but sculpture, photography, videography and even live performers from as far away as Denmark, Poland and Russia all made their way to Boulder. The curators asked artists to examine the idea of public life versus private life, and the results will be revealed in show/living installation/multimedia event that the two women are hosting in their home.
“It was interesting how artists interpreted public and private for this exhibition, making it not necessarily about being ‘in the home,’ but more of a voyeur approach,” says Winter of the wide body of work received. Adds Conway, “There are pieces about people making homes wherever they are — finding homes in public places, like train cars.”
The attic of the women’s house has been turned into a viewing room for cartoons, shorts and other video submissions; the kitchen will feature a live baker; and music and performance-art pieces by Cop Circles, Mango Katz, Travis Phillips and Twirly will take place, happening-style, throughout the bedrooms, living room, bathroom and basement.
Staycation unpacks inside 1927 Goss Street in Boulder this evening at 6 p.m., with performances going on throughout the night. There is a suggested donation of $5, but no one will be turned away. For more information, visit staycationart.com.
