The annual Colorado Irish Festival kicks off tonight, proving once again that practically everybody’s got a little Irish in them — or wishes they had. “It’s going to be kind of like a TGIF party, Irish-style,” explains the fest’s Pat McCullough. Get there early (admission is free from 5 to 6 p.m., $10 after 6) to hear the sounds of Gaelic Storm and celebrate the opening of the three-day fest.
On top of the usual vendors, music, dance performance, athletic and cultural exhibits, this year there’s a brand-new exhibit on Irish surnames. “They don’t have all the surnames, but they have quite a few,” notes McCullough. “It gives a lot of history about the surnames and where the families lived and how they lived.”
