The African American Leadership Institute has a lot to be proud of. “We’ve graduated more than 220 adults and served more than 10,000 youths in our youth program,” says board chair James Ellis. “And we’ve done that with only two employees, which is absolutely incredible, but I think what it speaks to is the amount of volunteer involvement that we get from the community.”

That volunteer involvement includes the 100 gentlemen chefs who participate in the annual Look Who’s Cooking Now benefit event. Tonight, for a mere $50 general admission (VIP and group tickets are also available), participants get to enjoy a short program followed by a smorgasbord to end all smorgasbords: “Each of the 100 chefs has a station, and people have a chance to do sampling, pick up food from each of those 100 stations. That’s where it gets kind of crazy — people want to sample everything!” Ellis says. Post-sampling, diners can work off some calories by dancing to live music. “After you’ve done your family thing at Thanksgiving, it’s an opportunity for you and your friends and family to dress up and go out and have a great time,” he adds.

Head to the Renaissance Denver Hotel, 3801 Quebec Street, at 6:30 p.m. tonight, and be prepared to stay till 1 a.m. Tickets are available at King Soopers or by calling 303-299-9035; buy early, because this event sells out every year. Happy dining!
