Multi-talented local performer Amy Fisher was larger than life, and her death in early August sent a shock wave through the Denver community. “So many people were touched by her and felt that she was this close, close, wonderful friend that they couldn’t imagine living without,” remembers Anne Medina, aka Fannie Spankings of Burlesque As It Was. That’s why Spankings and other members of the burlesque community — plus friends of Fisher’s from the music scene — are putting together tonight’s Memorial Show for Amy Fisher at the Oriental Theater, 4335 West 44th Avenue.
Featuring performances by Hemi Cuda, Dario Rosa, Velvet Elvis and Pierre from Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret, plus burlesque and aerial performances, a slide show of photographs and the Sweet Violets video, the memorial show will benefit Fisher’s family and Urban Peak, an organization for which she often volunteered. “It was a really good outlet for other performers to use their talents and their know-how to try to benefit her in that way,” adds Spankings. “It’s something pretty to remember a beautiful, beautiful person.”
Admission is $10. For more information, call 303-445-2124.
