Whatever happened to the days when someone said, “Hey, gang, let’s put on a show!” — and things happened overnight, just like that, to rave reviews?
Outside of a few summer-break escapades in the rec room, it’s not so common an occurrence these days, at least not until now. Boulder-area theater ensemble Bolder Acts is bringing back that kind of spontaneity with its Bolder Acts 24-Hour Theatre Experience, a playwrights’ challenge that takes five short productions from page to stage overnight. It all starts a day earlier, when five scribes are each handed a subject and head shots of the actors they’ll be working with, then get busy writing original scripts that must be rehearsal-ready by the next morning. After ten hours of work with a crew, choreographer and designated actors, each presents a finished play to a live audience, for better or for worse — often with big laughs involved.
Get in on the fast-paced action tonight at 7 p.m. at Nomad Theatre, 1410 Quince Avenue in Boulder; the PG-13-designated shows continue once monthly. For tickets, $10, and future dates, go to bolderacts.com or call 720-431-5355.
