Chalk It Up

Remember the days when your mom would come home from the store with a big pail of sidewalk chalk and you’d spend the afternoon on the driveway drawing pictures of circle-headed cats and playing hopscotch? Some people never really let go of that bucket of chalk. Find them in Larimer Square at the fifth annual La Piazza dell’Arte, which clears the street so more than 150 artists can cover it in temporary masterpieces. Think Michelangelo on a manhole. Today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the artists will work feverishly to finish pieces as large as twelve feet by twelve feet. Attending the Piazza is free; bring the kids down and set ’em loose in the Kids’ Corner, where they can create their own sidewalk art while you stop in at the Wine and Art Pavilion to sip some of Italy’s finest and scope works with a little more longevity.
