It’s not surprising that visitors to Body Worlds — which runs today through August 15 at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science — take away lessons as varied as the human population: The exhibit, which consists of plastinated human bodies and organs, offers viewers an unusual look at bodies, health and disease.
“Some people really saw it as unprecedented access in an age of virtual reality,” notes Dr. Bridget Coughlin, curator of human health at the museum. “You can’t get this by a virtual experience; you have to come and see it. And you can’t appreciate the complexities of human anatomies until you come to experience it up close and in person.”
The museum, which featured a similar exhibit back in 2006, has also put together an array of auxiliary events, including lectures, a sketch night for artists, a two-part course on cardiology, and a wine-and-chocolate night where you can learn about antioxidants. And new this time is a second exhibit, The Story of the Heart, which looks at how the heart “nourishes, regulates and sustains life.”
