Have you ever gotten up-close and personal with a World War II-era B-25 bomber? “It’s an amazing piece of American history,” says bomber pilot Jim Terry. “The airplane is a time capsule; it’s exactly the way it was in 1942.”

Terry’s airplane will be a guest of honor at tonight’s 1940s WWII Era Ball at the Boulder Municipal Airport, 3300 Airport Road in Boulder — a venue that event coordinator Khyentse James describes thus: “It’s right up against the foothills, and there are no trees, so the view is amazing. It’s just this really magical place.”

And that magic will get a boost tonight with the ball, which will feature the Joe Peterson Dance Orchestra performing under the nose of the bomber; aerial burlesque artist Brandy Dew; swing dancers heating up the floor beneath a canopy of lights; tanks and jeeps and other such pieces of history provided by the Military Vehicle Collectors of Colorado; a national fly-in; a Yak landing demo; and much more. Plus, the B-25 bomber will be available on Saturday and Sunday for private flights. (You can make reservations for that at the ball or by calling 877-IFLYB25, but fair warning: It’s not cheap.)

Tickets are $20 to $25, with VIP tables available. The ball is a benefit for the Decibelle Music and Cultural Festival; for details, call 303-449-4210 or visit www.estrojam.musictoday.com/estrojam/calendar.aspx.
