Liz Davis, event coordinator for tonight’s Buccaneer Ball at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, admits the urge to throw a pirate-themed dress-up party was, “kind of irresistible. We were sitting around the table talking about having a pirate exhibit, and probably four of us around the table were like, ‘Buccaneer Ball!’”

Tonight’s visitors are bound to find the party equally irresistible. Party-goers are encouraged to dress in their swashbuckling finest (there will be a costume contest with fabulous prizes); the admission price includes appetizers, one drink at the bar (a cash bar will be open after the first drink), a station where participants can get inked with a temporary tattoo, and a treasure hunt through the Real Pi-rates exhibit. “You’ll be hunting for information, answers to various questions,” Davis explains. “It’s a treasure map, and you’ll find your way through the exhibit by finding the answers.” There will also be live music. “We went with very danceable music — we decided not to go with sea shanties, although there will be some pirate-inspired music,” Davis notes.

Strap on your peg legs and eye patches and head to the DMNS, 2001 Colorado Boulevard, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Admission is $38 for museum members and $43 for non-members; visit www.dmns.org or call 303-370-6000.
