Keep the DeLorean in the garage: This weekend, time travel is as easy as a trip to the Fort in Morrison, where the Tesoro Foundation will host the 1830s Rendezvous today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. An encampment in the valley below the restaurant will house the stars of the show: mountain men and women re-enacting the era. You can visit their camp, hear their tales, buy their wares and maybe even try out their tomahawks. Today at 11 a.m., a “bare ass” amateur burro race steals the show. Anyone can participate in the two-mile obstacle race by registering (and renting a donkey) through the Western Pack Bureau Association at www.packburroracing.com. Sunday’s 1 p.m. mountain man competition makes a spectator sport of survival, and all weekend long, Miller’s Farm and other local vendors will replicate an open-air market while nearly two dozen artists who use only circa 1830 supplies compete in a juried art exhibit.
