Update: The Denver coroner’s office has identified the man who died after a shooting near 36th and Hudson on Valentine’s Day as Serril Allen, nineteen. He was transported to a hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest. By the way, a web search pulls up hits for a Serril Allen at Ridge View Academy; Max Preps lists him as a running back. Look below for our earlier coverage.

Original post, 11:49 a.m. February 15: At a few minutes after 9 p.m. yesterday, Denver Police received a call that brought officers to the 3600 block of Hudson Street. There they found a man who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound — and shortly thereafter, he expired at Denver Health. What happened? The cops don’t know — but they suspect someone saw what went down.

“We’re not sure what led to the shooting or who shot him,” says Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson. “But based on the calls we received, we believe there are witnesses. We’ve talked to some people, but we feel there are more people who saw something than we know about now.”

Anyone with more information is encouraged to dial the DPD’s Crimestoppers line, 720-913-STOP (7867). In the meantime, Jackson says, “this is a homicide investigation. We’re waiting for the coroner’s report to come back identifying the victim and the cause of death.”
