When Martin Moran’s The Tricky Part, an Obie-winning, autobiographical one-man show about his brush with sexual abuse as a boy, played at Curious Theatre ten years ago, it left Westword theater critic Juliet Wittman feeling uncomfortable — not because of the subject matter, but because there was no subterfuge or veneer of acting in Moran’s delivery. But maybe, in some small way, All the Rage, a sequel of sorts, counters Moran’s unrequited pain with a sense of moving forward, taking his continuing story off the too-much-information highway, looking for answers during travels that take him from Manhattan to Johannesburg and various points in between.
Want to form your own take on the controversy? You’ll have a chance when Curious interweaves a monthlong run of All the Rage with selected performances of The Tricky Part.
Rage premieres tonight at 8 p.m. at Curious Theatre Company, 1080 Acoma Street, and runs Thursdays through Sundays through October 5 (admission ranges from $18 to $44); Part returns for just five shows, beginning on September 10 and also running through October 5 (tickets are $39 to $46).
