Thus far, neither the Denver Police Department nor the city’s coroner has confirmed the identity of the apparent killer and victim in a Bryant Street tragedy as Damion Morine and his son Toby, age seven.

But neighbors have named them to the media while implying that marital discord influenced this gruesome turn.

Yesterday afternoon, DPD officers headed to an address near 2nd and Bryant on what was deemed a welfare check on a suicidal man, but they didn’t arrive in time to prevent fatalities. The bodies of a man and a boy were found inside a car parked in the home’s garage. The scenario suggests a murder-suicide.

What could have led to this crime? Neighbors tell Fox31 that Morine and his wife divorced a couple of years ago, but he didn’t go far, moving into a house across the street. Since then, Morine continued to water and mow the lawn at his wife’s place — actions nearby residents interpreted to mean that he wanted to get back together. But it wasn’t to be.

Morine’s record is said to have featured some DUIs. As for Toby, he was known on the block as a good kid — one who now won’t get the chance to grow into a good man.
