Update: An arrest has been made in this case. Get more information below.
Original post: Don’t know if Fort Morgan Police Chief Keith Kuretich is usually in his office at 6:30 a.m. — but he was there this morning, and for good reason. Last night, his department responded to a call at 400 W. Kiowa Avenue, an area captured in the graphic above (if you have problems seeing the image, click “View Larger Map”). There, they found the female victim of the community’s first murder in a little over three years — and in the hours since then, officers have developed information that Kuretich expects to spur the issuing of an arrest warrant later this morning.
Kuretich explains the up-to-the-moment situation:

“The police department responded to a 911 call about a woman who had been reported stabbed at 11:36 p.m. last night,” he says. “Upon arrival, the unidentified victim, of East African descent, was pronounced dead at the scene. After that, the police department obtained a search warrant to investigate further and began following up potential leads and doing interviews — and right now, we’re following up on a potential lead that I believe will lead to an arrest warrant for a Greeley man. We should have that information in the next hour and a half or so.”
As for the last homicide in Fort Morgan, he remembers the date: October 28, 2006. No doubt November 3, 2009 will stick in his mind as well. More information as it becomes available.
1:30 p.m., November 4: Greeley resident Ahmed Abdi, 25, has been arrested in relation to this killing. Second-degree murder charges are reportedly anticipated.
