A last hurrah for Denver with former resident Harry Smith
If you hurry, you can bask in the reflected glow of a final moment in the spotlight for Denver. CBS’s The Early Show — helmed by former Denverite Harry Smith, who wrote for Westword back in the ’70s — has been filming at Racines, 650 Sherman Street, since 5 a.m., and will be finishing up at 7 a.m. (The show, on two-air delay, airs on CBS4 starting at 7 a.m.)
There’s been plenty of talk about the Democratic National Convention, of course, and the events at Invesco Field at Mile High last night. But already, eyes are turning to Minnesota, where the Republican National Convention starts Monday. And before that, at noon today in Ohio, John McCain will announce his VP choice — a choice that increasingly looks like it will be Alaska governor Sarah Palin.
Which means that Denver’s spotlight is about to be switched off. — Patricia Calhoun
