Booze, glorious booze. Last night the fine folks from the Denver Independent Network of Restaurants (DINR), the Colorado Wine Board, the Colorado Brewers Guild and the Colorado Distillers Guild held a Colorado wine-, beer- and spirits-tasting event that packed the Walker Fine Art Gallery with more than sixty different wines, beers and spirits, many of them great Colorado products I’d never had the pleasure of trying before.

I am already a huge fan of our state’s more great drinkable products — such as Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey and Goat Vodka — and now I’ve joined several more fan clubs. Cap Rock Gin Organic Dry Gin rolled right off my tongue with its insanely good, botanically charged gin. Montanya Oro Rum out of Silverton is as good, if not better, than any rum made in the Caribbean. Talon Winery out of Palisade had an extremely drinkable blend of Chardonnay and Viognier grapes called Wingspan White that was also extremely inexpensive.

Leopold Bros. Michigan Tart Cherry Liquor tasted exactly like an alcoholic version of tart cherry filling in a great tart cherry pie, and it still holds my heart hostage with its Absinthe Verte, New York Apple Flavored Whiskey and Three Pins Alpine Herbal Liqueur.

Next time you go to your neighborhood bar, restaurant or package store, try our local product. You’ll be amazed by this state’s liquid assets.
