Word Dan Hawkins will be back as head coach at CU triggered the first test of the decision to retain him: Would recruits who’d previously committed to the school be excited or disgusted?
At this early juncture, the news is mixed, but it leans toward the positive. According to Bleacher Report, quoting from articles on BuffStampede.com, a pay-subscription site, two recruits, California’s Chidera Uzo-Diribe and Littleton’s Mister Jones, are sticking by Hawk.
Meanwhile, however, another Littleton product, Danny Spond, has decided to keep looking rather than lock in at CU — and reasons he shared with BuffStampede.com are devastating. Here’s what he said:
“Before the season, I just had such high hopes for Colorado. Just with the season they had, it has kind of changed a lot of my thinking… I want to go to a program that is fundamentally sound and ready to win.”

That’s not the kind of talk any CU fan wants to hear. Of course, more recruits are likely to stay than leave, since the man who romanced them in the first place will remain at the helm. But if Hawkins only lasts one more season, expect the same folks to immediately start looking for greener practice fields.
The only thing capable of preventing such an exodus is a winning season. And best of luck with that.
