Rarely have a project and album name fit their music as perfectly as Weed Problem and its self-titled release. “Noddy Drug Kits” flows with a buzzy drone that is never fully resolved but just continues to build while hazy, echoing chants undulate amid syncopated crashing guitar and drums. The sprawling “Krishna Addict,” meanwhile, evokes the sound of Helena Blavatsky’s Ascended Masters at work as interpreted in a score to a Robert E. Howard story drawn by Moebius for Heavy Metal magazine. “Judgy Ghost Guru” is driven by a crackling, distorted bass line as shimmers of other sounds haunt the edges before fully taking over — like a futuristic mining machine possessed. Closing track “God’s War Against Man’s War Against Man” features a slowed-down vocal sample alongside a Godflesh-esque beat.
