As local filmmakers continue to give Colorado a cinematic identity, more events keep popping up to satisfy the local hunger for independent films. Tonight, Comedy Works South will feed that beast with its debut partnership with Film Festival Flix, a monthly event of national filmmakers hosting a Q&A and screening of their recent releases.

“We want to provide that insider experience for movie-goers. They can speak with the filmmaker and have a nice social experience with people who have a common love of independent film,” says Benjamin Oberman, organizer of Film Festival Flix, who takes his revolving crew of directors, actors and writers on a nine-city national tour each month, stopping in Denver every second Tuesday. “One of our goals for each event is to identify and feature a local filmmaker in each city. So we have a short-film competition each month, and the top-rated film will be shown each Tuesday before our feature.”

This week’s features are The Holy Land of Tyrol, by Philipp J. Pamer, at 5 p.m., and Face to Face, by Michael Rymer (Queen of the Damned, Battlestar Galactica), at 7:30 p.m. Comedy Works South is at 5345 Landmark Place, in Greenwood Village; admission is $10 per film or $15 for an all-event pass .
