Mariposa returns with another release of miniature world songs, this time joining forces with Albuquerque’s Javelina for a split release. Mariposa’s (Madeline Johnston) spooky/sweet vocals — like a teenage elf with three-pack-a-day habit — and intimate fantasy hymns fit well next to the songs of Javelina, which are a little more indie and little less D&D than Mariposa’s, yet just as arresting. As another release from local Tinyamp Records (Mariposa and Hunter Dragon’s pet label) Sister Chromatid is an excellent addition to their repertoire of songs to build a fort to — if, for no other reason, than Mariposa’s brazenness to (apparently) unironically entitle the second track “Born to Run.”
