Artist Theresa Anderson is also a writer, so it’s no surprise that when she journals, she documents the development of ideas both personal and artistic. Using found objects, Xerox transfers, various art mediums and even a needle and thread, Anderson sketches her way into finished works, all between the pages of what is an evolving work of art itself.

Whether you’re another artist or just a creative dabbler, this is a process that anyone could benefit from understanding better. To that end, Anderson will share her techniques and ideas next week at PlatteForum, where she’ll lead From Here to There: Extending the Sketch Book, a three-hour workshop, as part of the gallery’s ongoing Make. series.

Join Anderson from 6 to 9 p.m. August 15; the $39 fee covers a libation and most of the materials needed (if you don’t have a journal to bring, Anderson will have some for sale). Another feel-good aspect? All of the class fee supports PlatteForum’s programs pairing artist-mentors with underserved youth. Seats are limited; advance registration is available online.
