There is no way Mike Relm could be confined by the simple title of mash-up DJ — the San Fransisco-based artist not only cuts and pastes music together in mutated forms, but he deftly brings video to disjointed life, too, with on-the-spot edits. The multi-media performer manipulates music videos, commercials and movie clips in real time, as his audience watches, dances and laughs at pop culture intersecting in ways only a video-DJ like Relm could imagine.
And that, if anything, is the hardest part about experiencing a Mike Relm show — you don’t know whether to be bouncing to his Justin Bieber-spliced Ludacris joints or watching Isaiah Mustafa (you know, the handsome Old Spice dude) get triplicated and turned into a three-in-one-man show. Relm comes to Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom tonight for an all ages event, and tickets are $15-17.50. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., performances begin at 9 p.m.
