For Stephanie Tourles, licensed holistic esthetician and author of Raw Energy: 124 Raw Food Recipes for Energy Bars, Smoothies, and Other Snacks to Supercharge Your Body, her raw-food education began as a child on her grandparents’ Georgia farm. “They had two large gardens in which they grew a substantial portion of their annual food,” she explains. “They taught me that you needed to consume the freshest, most nutritious food possible so you could ensure a lifetime of energy, health and strength.”
Tourles isn’t trying to convert anyone to an all-raw diet, though; the idea behind Raw Energy is to give people healthy snack alternatives to the vending machine or drive-thru — though there are plenty of good reasons to go raw. “You get more energy and your immune system will be boosted,” notes Tourles, “and your appearance will also be dramatically enhanced by long-term use of raw foods.”
Tourles will give a demonstration and provide samples as well as sign Raw Energy tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Tattered Cover LoDo, 1628 16th Street. Call 303-436-1070 or visit www.tatteredcover.com.
