Q: I’m getting married in June, and because my fiancé’s parents live out of state, they want us to choose the place for the rehearsal dinner. I was wondering if you could suggest some not-so-pricey restaurants that can accommodate about thirty people?
A: Keeping the not-so-pricey part in mind, one of your best bets might be El Rancho (Exit 252 off I-70 West, Evergreen; 303-526-0661), particularly since there are out-of-towners involved. The antler-adorned rustic setting is cute Old West without being overbearing; the food is well-priced and will give guests a little taste of buffalo and other Western game meats; and the window-walled room off to the side is perfect for small parties.
Another possibility is the Wellshire Inn (3333 South Colorado Boulevard; 303-759-3333), which has many small, elegantly decorated rooms scattered throughout a Tudor-style mansion that sits on the edge of a city golf course. The food is mostly New American these days, and the staff is good about working out group rates.
One more option: Carmine’s on Penn (92 South Pennsylvania Street, 303-777-6443), which recently renovated an employee pool room into a funky little party area. Carmine’s family-style Italian menu translates to lots of great Italian food for a reasonable amount of money.
