National Poetry Month is for everyone, and so is El Centro Su Teatro’s tenth annual Neruda Poetry Festival, which begins today, smack dab in the middle of the nation’s bardish celebration of metered, arranged, improvised and performed verbiage. And you’ll enjoy some of each during this three-day event, kicking off on April 16 with Homecooked Poetry, a poetic homage to Chicano movement veterans Flor Lovato and Margie Domingo, 7 p.m. at El Centro, 4725 High Street. The annual Barrio Slam performance poetry bash returns Friday, April 17, at the same time, and on Saturday, April 18, Su Teatro’s Tacos and Words Literary Salon will host the Anaya Project, featuring creative responses to the troupe’s workshopped stage version of Rudolfo Anaya’s Bless Me Ultima by local and regional voices, at 5:30 p.m., followed by the fest’s main event, ¡Representa!, a word theater presentation by guest poets Paul S. Flores and Julio Cardenas, at 8:05 p.m.
