Everyone seems to understand the appeal of watching a film in the theater, and many of us also get the appeal of cuddling up with a good book. But in my opinion, there’s a severely underrated form of narrative entertainment that some people just don’t know about: Sitting in a theater and listening to someone weave a tale in person brings me back to my childhood, settling in for the night while my mom or dad told me a story. Ah, memories.
That’s why I think we’re so lucky to have Stories on Stage, monthly collections of themed stories read on stage by local actors. This month’s presentation is Personal Testimonies, featuring the stories “Why I Like Country Music,” “Rules of the Game,” “The Management of Grief” and “The Viaduct Scene,” from the 1929 Marx Brothers film The Cocoanuts.
