The Democratic National Convention convenes in Denver in exactly ten weeks. But right now, it’s nail-biting time.
The first hurdle: today’s deadline for raising the rest of the $40.6 million that the Denver host committee is required to pour into the pot — money that’s slated to be used for the retrofit of the Pepsi Center, among other things.
Even as officials scrambled for more donations this weekend — the committee is still reportedly $15 million short — national reporters were scrambling for more of the story. The Wall Street Journal has a piece on the shortfall this morning, and the walk-through for the media planned for this coming Thursday was cancelled without notice last Friday. — Patricia Calhoun
