Performing and recording under then moniker Smog for the first half of his career, Bill Callahan (playing tonight at the hi-dive with Neil Morgan) changed over to his given name with the release of 2007’s Woke On A Whaleheart, but his sound and style remained unaffected. The vastly prolific singer-songwriter has recorded more than a dozen albums in two decades and published his first short novel last year.
We spoke with the deep and cavernous-voiced Callahan recently about his collaborations with Jim O’Rourke and Thor Harris, and his feelings about his work being covered by the late Gil Scott-Heron. This show is eighteen and up, and tickets are $15. Doors open at 8 p.m., and performances begin at 9 p.m.
