Mary Nguyen has been busy opening Olive & Finch, but she hasn’t ignored Parallel Seventeen, the pan-Asian restaurant she opened eight years ago. And tonight at 6 p.m., Parallel Seventeen will host a four-course, holiday-inspired dinner emphasizing local ingredients — pork belly dumplings and carrot-and-thyme tarts with herbed goat cheese — with wine pairings from the French and Italian regions. Tickets are $35 per person; for reservations, call 303-399-0988.

But before you treat yourself to dinner at Parallel 17, you might want to finish some holiday shopping. Southlands Shopping Center is holding a holiday market with unique, hand-crafted gifts from over forty local artists and artisanal food vendors from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. In addition to the market, the center is hosting food and pottery-wheel demonstrations, along with ornament painting and gift-wrapping.

And at 7 p.m. tonight at Mutiny Information Cafe, ArgusFest will host a screening of The Garden, a documentary about the fourteen-acre community garden in South Central Los Angeles that’s the largest of its kind in the United States. Started as a form of healing after the devastating L.A. riots in 1992, the South Central farmers have since created a miracle in one of the country’s most blighted neighborhoods — and now bulldozers are poised to level this oasis. Admission is a suggested $2 donation.
