Are you already lamenting the loss of beloved weirdo pop outfit Six Months to Live? Well, do we have good news for you! In just a few weeks, you’ll be able to enjoy some of the same zesty pop/rock flavor with former Six Months to Live frontman’s new act, the Babysitters.

The Babysitters are Greg Hill and his wife Maureen. Mr. Hill sings, plays guitar and “homemade foot-bass,” while his better half provides the drums and keytar. “Musically, we can’t hold Six Months to Live’s jockstrap,” he says. “But we’re a million times more entertaining.”

That’s a tall order considering Six Months to Live’s fashion-forward flair — Greg Hill frequently performed in a bathrobe, while his bandmates would sport sharp suits — and humorous yet always tuneful catalogue of songs (think a more poppy Ween). He points to deadbubbles, the Velvet Underground, glam rock, Will Ferrell and “ourselves” as influences for an overall aesthetic he sums up as, “Mistakes are more entertaining than perfection; unbridled stupidity trumps all.”

On July 30, the Babysitters will offer their “fourth debut performance” at the Meadowlark. In the meantime, you can check out a couple of songs at the Sparky the Dog MySpace page.
