The streets aren’t safe for those of us on two wheels. Each ride a bicyclist takes — for fun or to work, the store or the bar — a potential kiss of death is always included. But ride we must.
So cyclists from across Colorado will pedal out from the Promenade Shops at Briargate in Colorado Springs, 1885 Briargate Parkway, this evening at 7 p.m. as part of the Ride of Silence, a worldwide effort to encourage motorists to share the road with bicyclists.
Cyclists are asked to cruise at no faster than twelve miles per hour for ten miles and remain silent during a funeral-procession-style ride. Riders are also asked to wear black armbands — red ones if they’ve ever endured a collision on their bike (I’ve been in two).
The ride is geared not only toward raising awareness, but also toward paying tribute to cyclists who’ve lost their lives on two wheels. For details, visit www.rideofsilence.org.
